out the Hylomar once again. 
As per the instructions I laid a fine bead onto both mating surfaces, then carefully set the gasket in place. Unfortunately working from the backside I did not notice that through each of the bolt holes, a small bit of Hylomar had leaked out right onto my fresh paint. By the time I was satisfied that the gasket was in place, the goop had set. Unable to use anything solvent-based for fear of damaging the paint, DuPont 3901S "Final Klean" wax & grease remover to the rescue. Although it still required much careful elbow grease and even then I did tear up the paint in two spots, the Final Klean did remove all traces of the Hylomar.
What I will now do with valve cover #2 is to place a piece of masking tape over each hole (on the painted side), to keep the sealer from dribbling onto the paint in the first place.
