The GGLC spy photographer has been working hard with his ultra-long lens and captured the lastest photos of the upcoming Esprit replacement.

The GGLC has learned from inside sources that the new Esprit replacement will NOT be named "Esprit", but will wear the name "EXCESS".

Here is a recent spy shot of a possible new Esprit under development. Although the car is wearing camoflague to hide it's shape, it does seem to have some distinct Esprit-like features, like hood scallops, the rear quarter glass, and the familiar wedge shape.

An undisguised "Excess" prototype was spotted, this one reflecting how Lotus is is clearly trying to use the retro themes on the new car. The Lotus Excess prototype is also wearing similar camoflague in this exclusive spy shot. It appears to cater more to luxury than handling with a very entended wheelbase although it does have fins, giving a possible aerodynamic advantage. Hopefully, we will see more of it in the future.

The Excess is expected to have some major upgrades to the drivetrain and engine package with a target launch is April 1, 2010.

Lotus expects phenomenal performance and handling. Lotus is rumored to be upgrading the wheels to 24" diameter. A sure hit in the urban areas.
