Stressed about stress cracks ? Fret not, fellow Lotus-philes, for it's that time of year again; Mike Ostrov is hosting his annual glassfibre workshop at his shop in El Sobrante on Sunday, August 26th.
The dust will start flyin' at 10am, and will continue until we break for lunch at one of the fine local restaurants. More crack eradication Q & A in the afternoon, and then we'll finish off the day by exercising the cars with a leisurely drive around the nearby reservoir.
Please RSVP by Friday, August 24th if you plan on attending so Mike will know how much crack to plan for. (510) 232-7764 or mikeostrov@webtv.com. The shop number is (510) 222-6437 if you should get lost on the way up.

Directions to Mike's;
1.  Take Hwy 80 to El Sobrante and exit on San Pablo Dam Rd
2.   Bear right on San Pablo Dam Rd and go about 2 miles
3.  Left on Appian way (light).
4.  Right onto Santa Rita Road.

a saloon!  I simply need more power, but that's a little more involved than adding camber.
But speaking of power, I have to tell you that at the end of the day I was "thrown the keys" to our events coordinator John Zender's infamous Flamer-Europa, and I gladly took it out for a few laps.  As some of you know, John put a Cosworth BD in his car a few years back, and he's been doing mods every year since then to get every ounce of speed out of the car.  And as I quickly found out, speed is no problem for The Flamer, simply put your foot down and it takes off!  There's so much more power on tap compared to the relatively stock Europa I drove all day, and the power was over a larger range of the tach as well.  As for the handling, the Europa felt like it was on its tiptoes all day, drifting around the turns.  But The Flamer felt like it was glued to the track; adhesion was indeed on another level.   I would enjoy a whole day in that car as I wasn't even close to exploring its limits after only four laps.  But hearing that BD behind me, and feeling that power under my foot was a great finish to an outstanding day.  The checkered flag came out to end the last session when I began my fourth lap.  I was disappointed that I couldn't go around a few more times, but I was really glad I got the opportunity to experience John's car, thanks John!
I'll close by saying that for those who got scared off by the weather, well, you did just that, you got scared off.  I know that Willows in July doesn't sound very appealing, but this time nature played a pleasant trick on us and the weather turned out to be great!  We woke up to some thunderstorms which quickly dissipated by the time we got to the track, and which left us with a nice breeze all day.  Everyone remarked how nice the day was, and I didn't hear of anyone overheating the entire day.  On behalf of all those who participated, I'd like to thank John Zender for putting on another great track day.  We had tons of track time, it was well organized, and of course, his connections regarding the weather were very impressive, and much appreciated, to say the least.  Thanks again John!
The next track day is October 9th, so mark your calendars, ask your boss for the day off, and come out and enjoy the fun, I can guarantee you'll be glad you did!  See you at the next
meeting.

Third time's the charm.  We've booked another track day at Thunderhill for Tuesday, October 9th.  Tuesdays are a perfect opportunity to play hooky from work and go out to drive fast.  Both the April and July track days went extremely well with too much track time for most people.  The last two events sold out and we ended up with a waiting list.  If you want to make sure you get in, enter early.
Format will be similar to before with 2 groups - open passing and restricted passing.  You'll be allowed to run in both groups if you like for no extra charge. Total entries will be limited to 40 cars.
No open wheel cars are allowed, and convertibles must have a roll bar. Targa-style cars ie. Ferrari 308/355, Porsche 911 are OK but the roof should be in place.
Cost is $175/car for the first 25 entries.  After that, cost will be $190. If you have two or more drivers sharing the same car, add $50 for each additional driver. If you want the standard Thunderhill lunch deal that includes sandwich, drink, cookie and chips, add $7/meal.
You're encouraged to make hotel reservations at the Golden Pheasant Inn in Willows (530) 934-4603 and say that you're with the Golden Gate Lotus Club to get the group's discount.
Mail in the registration form on page 4 and we'll see you at the track.

John
