About 35 WCLMers and other Track Day entrants gathered at the Reno-Fernley Raceway about 20 minutes
east of Reno.
The Reno-Fernley Raceway complex includes a drag strip, 3/8 mile dirt oval, kart track, motocross and
2.3 mile road course with 14 turns. It's an entertaining course with lots of run off room.
The front straight leads into a series of fast esses and into a double apex sweeping 180. Then it's a
quick squirt and a brake tap into a right-hander and then a quick left. Another set of right-lefts follow
and onto a bumpy, but longish straight. Here the Elise drivers were hitting 125 and the Esprit drivers nearing
130.
It was then through a righhander and then in the "Toilet Bowl", a steeply banked left that turned back
toward the front straight. A quick dogleg right and then brakes into the final corner and onto the front
straight. On the long fast front straight the Esprit V8s were getting up over 140 and the faster Elise drivers
were up over 135.
The Track Day participants were joined for the lunch BBQ by the those on the Friday WCLM Tour. After lunch
a pace car was set out and everyone joined in a track tour. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get
a taste of the track!
A very successful Track Day that ended with lots of grins and no broken cars!
