WCLM entrants arrived at the National Automobile Museum - The Harrah Collection in Reno Saturday evening.
The Museum opened its doors to us for an exclusive private WCLM evening. We strolled through 4 huge galleries of
over 200 vintage and significant cars. The vast majority was donated by Harrah's hotels and are the remenants of the
once vast collection of Bill Harrah.
The National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) opened in 1989, and set the standard for the world
of automobile museums with its dramatic displays, in-depth interpretation, extensive collection and exciting
opportunities for visitor participation.
Located along the banks of the Truckee River in downtown Reno, the 105,000 square foot building incorporates smooth,
rounded, exterior walls and chrome trim reminiscent of automotive styling. The popular 1950s car paint color,
Heather Fire Mist, was chosen for the exterior walls.
Located in the racing & competition gallery is the sole Lotus in the Museum, a Lotus 38 Indy car. The car was
driven by Dan Gurney at Indy and late sold to Tommy Smothers (Smother Brothers fame) who campaigned it.
We ate... boy did we eat! And then some awards and door prizes were passed out. A wonderful evening in a very special
location.
